Allegiant and Ascendant: The Final Flicks for Divergent Series

It is pretty common nowadays to split a story into two release endings in order to prolong the possibility of profit as well as keeping the viewers’ interest piqued. Such cases have been apparent in the popular teen/sci-fi fictions of Hunger Games and Twilight. Studios and producers mostly agree that splitting the final story will present something more mysterious – as well as keeping their cash flow coming in, naturally.

The Divergent series may not be as huge or popular as the Hunger Games or Twilight, but it has enough loyal fans; well, at least enough to keep the producers from making continuation of the movies. And just like the two previous popular flicks, the producers also decide to divide the final story – the Allegiant – into two parts. Adapted from the novel made by Veronica Roth, there had been a fuss about the naming of the movies. At first, they were going to name it Allegiant Part 1 and Allegiant Part 2, but it seems that they have changed their minds and talked over about this plan. It seems that they have resolved it and they finally come with the official name, Allegiant, and Ascendant. By the way, Allegiant will be the first while the Ascendant will be the second.

In case you don’t know, Divergent series is about four different categories of human distinction. The setting is in Chicago but in dystopian post-apocalyptic background. It is believed that there are only four basic human virtues and everyone has the main characteristic of each, but only a Divergent can have more than one characteristic of the virtue, making them special. The main character is Beatrice Prior (played by Shailene Woodley) that learns about herself as she turns out to be a Divergent. She always thinks that she lives in a perfect society, but she will soon learn that she is hugely mistaken.

If you haven’t seen the second flick, the Insurgent, you may want to catch up. After knowing her faith as Divergent in the first flick, Tris and Four (her love interest) finds out that the world they know may not be so familiar for them. It turns out that they are supposed to be home is actually a place of experiments to see and observe whether divergence can be created – it is related with the so-called original thinking. Well, you have to watch the movie if you want to get a better grasp of everything that happens.

The tagline for Allegiant is to break the boundaries, and it is likely related to Tris, Four, and other divergent planning to go beyond their known city wall. Well, I shouldn’t say more if I don’t want to ruin the spoiler for the fans out there.

The movies will both be directed by Robert Schwentke, and the main cast Shailene Woodley will return as Beatrice “Tris” Prior as well as Theo James as Four. There are other casts that will join the film, including Maggie Q, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Naomi Watts, Ansel Elgort, and Jeff Daniels. Allegiant should be available in movie theaters on March the 18th 2016 while the Ascendant will follow on March the 24th 2017.
