If you are one of the hardcore fans of Resident Evil series, I don’t know whether the following news will be a good or bad one for you. Paul W.S. Anderson – the man responsible for writing the series scripts as well as directing them – has been responsible for making the flick for impressive 15 years, and so far he has made 5 action series of it. And now, according to the main actress, Ali Larter (playing as Claire Redfield), who will be joining in the next production, it is likely that the series will come to an end. They are making Resident Evil: The Final Chapter that will wrap the whole things up and concluded the series.
Although the series have its own shares for criticism, it has created a solid fan base. The movie started in 2002, made based on the Resident Evil game that actually has more portions for the horror genre. Some of the critics are about the silly story lines and how the series have turned into ridiculous action flicks, instead of staying loyal to the horror genre. Despite the critics, however, Resident Evil has its own success. And the fact that Milla Jovovich has been playing the main role may contribute to that success.
During an interview with IGN, Larter seems to be very sure and confirmed that this Resident Evil 6 will be the last one – well, after all, she has read the scripts. Although she refuses to say more about the movie and the further details of it, she is positive that everything will come to an end. According to the script she has read, this film will conclude everything. There’s a finality in it, and she’s somehow glad about it.
Larter first appeared as Claire Redfield in Resident Evil Extinction in 2007 and she has appeared three times in the franchise. She expresses her gratitude for being involved in this film, and she knows good things always come to an end. It is the matter about whether they are going to have a beautiful end or not to this franchise, but from the script she has read, it seems that everything will be okay. The things she loves from this movie is about women power and how it is being far away from the general women stereotype. She likes the fact that Alice and Claire are both strong women that can work together – instead of competing against one another. One thing for sure, Larter claims that the final movie will reveal everything – from her relationship with Umbrella Corp and with Alice. From her statement, it is possible that more characters from the previous series will be joining the team. You can probably expect Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, and Ada Wong to be in the same screen.
The Final Chapter will continue the story from Retribution, where Claire has got her superhuman power back. Alice, Claire, and others will be facing with Red Queen to prevent world’s extinction. The shooting will start this September 2015 and it will take place in South Africa. The movie itself is planned for launching around January the 27th 2017.
