Game of Thrones is not only the TV show has made a new platform in the fantasy flick, it manages to create controversies with some of the scenes. Producers may say that the scenes from the books are more shocking and controversial, but still….they have made a clever way to make sure that the show is somewhat memorable and not easily forgotten.
And now, it seems that producers and also HBO have reached an agreement about the continuation of the show. Although some time ago HBO had declared their intention to make Game of Thrones to the seventh season, it seems that they are going to prolong their initial plan to the eight. During the Television Critics Association (TCA) event, they announced their plan to make at least eight seasons of this fantasy series. Michael Lombardo, the HBO programming president, has confirmed that they are thinking about making eight seasons, although they initially had thought of seven. Now they are filming the scenes for the season six, and the showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff are thinking about having two more seasons afterward – thinking that there are still more stories to explore and dig. So, that’s the plan they have right now.
Besides the prolonged season, there are also questions about making spinoff or prequels for the series. Lombardo claims that they haven’t talked about that possibility yet, although he won’t rule out it just yet. Just because they don’t talk about it, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t there. If the showrunners and the author of the fantasy, George R.R. Martin, suddenly want to tackle the obstacle and decide on making a spinoff, it is possible that they are going to have another discussion about it. But for now, they are focusing on the running of the show for at least several years to come.
Meanwhile, aside from the talk about the season and the ‘faith’ of the show, there are some confirmations about new characters. Since it has been confirmed that the show will be ongoing for at least 2 years from now, new characters are definitely needed. After it has been confirmed that Ian McShane is joining the cast, Max von Sydow (from Minority Report and The Exorcist) is reported to agree to join the board too. While McShane’s cast is still unknown and remains a mystery up to now, Sydow has been confirmed to be Three-Eyed Raven, Bran Stark’s mystical tutor. The Three-Eyed Raven was previously appearing on finale episode of game of thrones online (although played by another actor), and the producers seem to think that it is high time to let the character come up to the surface.game of thrones online (although played by another actor), and the producers seem to think that it is high time to let the character come up to the surface.
Both characters of Sydow and McShane’s won’t have many portions on the screen, but their existence will be very important to the flow of the story. Well, since there isn’t much to reveal from Lombardo’s confirmation, I guess we just have to wait and see. Meanwhile, they are filming the scenes for another ten episodes for this season 6 and they are going to launch the show in spring 2016.
