Assassin’s Creed isn’t a new thing in the world of gaming – well, at least for gamers. If you are into this game, you are certainly familiar with all the strategies, gaming plots, characters, and everything related to this topic.
The idea to make this game into a movie has been talked about – in fact, it has been an on-going plan for the last four years – but it seems that the studio, producers, and director haven’t started producing the flick just yet. In the previous years, the problem might be related to who’s going to play the main character, but now it seems that there are more to a technicality and other stuff that make the production delayed.
It has been confirmed that Michael Fassbender will be playing the main role, but what kind of character he is going to play as remains vague. The actor himself doesn’t really understand the details of the role – according to his confession. For Fassbender, being involved in the production of Assassin’s Creed is relatively new for him. Not to mention that everyone involved need to develop good plots and make changes – when it is necessary. He confirms, though, that production will start this September and all the necessary changes have been made – it is one of the main reasons why they take such a long time to start filming, anyway.
It is quite risky, considering that several game-based movies don’t really get positive acceptance and feedbacks from hardcore fans – remember Doom, Silent Hill, or Resident Evil? But if you want to think about the long production time, there is probably hope. Instead of rushing, the studio decided to really take their time to construct a good and solid plot. Hopefully, this flick won’t be disappointing as the previous game-based flicks.
Despite the glimpse of hope, there are some things that remain unclear. A previous rumor had it that Fassbender would be playing as Desmond Miles with the modern setting. There will be Abstergo Industries with their Animus machine to relieve Miles’ memory. However, things seem to change and Fassbender’s character will be totally new – not connected to any characters from the game. In fact, the characters created for Fassbender will be completely made for the upcoming film.
Thi confirmation has been made from Ubisoft, when Azaizia Aymar, the content head of Assassin’s Creed tweeted the details for the new film. Fassbender will be playing a character named Callum, and Abstergo will be appearing on the flick. Although the movie has its own storyline and not based on any games or comics, the plot will affect the upcoming Assassin’s Creed universe. Whatever elements showing up on the movies will have its own impact to the next game and comic.
Up until now, there is no official confirmation about how the story will be. However, it seems that Fassbender will be playing in two different settings, as Callum in modern time and as his ancestor Aguilar in the 15th century. Besides Fassbender, Ariane Labed, Michael K. Williams, and Marion Cotillard will be joining the casts. The flick is planned to release around December the 21st 2016.
